Article in unnamed local paper:

Credible performances were given by scholars of West Byfleet School in production of “The Mystic Mirror”, a charming operative by C. King Proctor, which was presented to large audiences in the School Hall on Thursday, Friday and Saturday of last week.

Under the supervision of Mr. C.V. Jenkins (Headmaster) the production was brought to a very high standard.  An outstanding feature was the elocution.   The singing both individually and collectively was excellent and the numerous dances were prettily staged and performed.

The part of the heroine fell to Jean Poot, who was very good as Peal, the belle of Silversee, and Dennis Hough the hero, made a complete success of the character Prince Submarine.   John Holbrow, the villain, did good work as King Torpedo, and Anne Walton made an excellent Fairy Queen.  Two other performances who introduced a degree of comedy were John Drangnell (Skipper of the Sung June) and Harold Thompson (hissen), Geoffrey Sargent was good as a sailor, as also were Rosemary Bye and Thelma Pake as the friends of Pearl.

The dances were performed by the following: P, Myers, D. Nicholls, D. Drake, R. Johnson, D. Bilby, G. Simpson, A. Boater, F. Raggett, P. Strang, M. Childs, S. Goodey, J. Honeybum (Sea Imps), B. Garforth, G. Harrington, J. Taylor, B. Channing, H. Hawkes, V. Fish, J. Inkpen, M. Evans, P. Rumble, A. Wilkes, P. Day and A. Lomas (Sea Fairies).

Miss M. King was choir mistress and Miss L. Felgate ballet mistress.

The costumes were by Miss E. Adcock, Mrs. E.V. Ansell, Miss A. Dodwell and Mr. S.K. Penn.  Scenery by Miss P. Mason, make-up by Mrs N. Brooks, Mrs. E. Perry and Mr. R. Keate.  Mr. V. Allsop and Mr. C.R. Hansford were stage manager and assistant respectively.  Mr. C.S. Finbow, business manager and Miss G.C. Peacock and Mr. S.K. Penn (accompanists).
