The following article appeared in the Woking News and Mail on 23rd July 1948.

COLOURFUL OPERETTA

Audiences were enthralled by the performance of “Papegeno”, an operetta in two scenes adapted from Mozart’s “Magic Flute” by J. Michael Diack, given by the choir of West Byfleet County Secondary School at the School Hall on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.    Dancers and chorus in colourful costumes, the chocolate coloured slaves, together with the principals, numbered 90, and provided a brilliant spectacle.

The two lovers, Papegeno and Papageria, in this romantic fantasy were played charmingly by Brian Heywood and Sylvia Bond.    Ivor Smith in the role of Monastatos, the leader of the slaves, who tried to capture the young lovers, almost stole the show with his vivid personality.

Accompanist throughout was Miss Joan Ward.  Producers and musical advisors were Miss M. King and Miss Joan Ward, and there were many helpers.  Principal parts were taken by: Queen of the Night, Pamela Smith; First Lady Diana Hull; Second Lady, Jean Pateman; dancers, Wilma Lawrence, Shirley Knowles, Suzanna Simmonds and Margaret Simmonds.
