The Woking Netball Cup was today presented to the girls’ team – champions for the present season.

The following article appeared in the Woking News and Mail:

Champions of the Woking and District Schools Netball League for 1949-50 season and featured above in proud possession of the cup are the girls of West Byfleet County Secondary School team.   Holding the cup is the team’s popular captain Rita Roberts, and standing on the extreme right of our picture is the school sports mistress, Miss P. Temple.

The team which came into being only two years ago, is recognised as outstanding in the Woking and District League, and this was amply confirmed at the end of March, when the West Byfleet players defeated a representative side, from the rest of the League, by 16 points to 14, at West Byfleet.

Trained by Miss Temple, the team took part in the County Netball Rally at Wallington last year and at Guildford this season.   On both occasion they emerged first in their age group, which is a very fine achievement for such a recently organised team.

Featured in our picture are, back row (left to right): Kathleen Breads, Jean Pateman, Marian Clarke, Betty Balchin, Diana Sims and Miss P. Temple.   Front row (right to left): Gillian Walton, Rita Roberts and Shirley Barham.
