8th January 1952

School reopened.  Miss Jean Stewart commenced duty temporally to take the second year girls P.E. and Games.

14th January 1952

Mr. Curtis absent with a broken leg.

17th January 1952

Mrs. Hooper absent all day today attending an appointments meeting.  Mrs. Ellis absent during the afternoon session visiting school at which she is seeking a post.

7th February 1952

Two suitable assemblies were held this morning as a mark of sympathy at the passing of H.M. George VI.

8th February 1952

Mrs. Ellis absent during the morning session attending an appointment interview.

11th February 1952

Mr. Curtis resumed duty.  Mr. Allison will continue to take the boys Physical education until further notices as Mr. Curtis’ leg is still in plaster.  Mr. Curtis is taking English, first year History and R.I.

15th February 1952

The normal timetable for the first hour of the afternoon was suspended to enable the funeral service from St. George’s Chapel, Windsor, of His Late Majesty King George VI to be heard by the whole school in the Hall and four class rooms.  The school closed today till 20th February for half term vacation.

20th February 1952

The school reopened.

3rd March 1952

During the afternoon session a party of 30 fourth year children with Mr. Penn and Miss Edwards visited the dress rehearsal of “She Scoops to Conquer by the Woking Boys Grammar School.

4th March 1952

The girls of 4B and 4C with Miss Taylor and Floor visited Cadby Hall by kind permission of Messrs. Lyons during the afternoon session.

7th March 1952

Miss Taylor absent attending an appointment interview in Leicester.

17th March 1952

Mr. Wheeler absent with a sprained ankle.

26th March 1952

Major Action, vice Chairman of the Governors, visited the school to discuss various matters with the Headmaster.

27th March 1952

A party of fourth year girls with Mrs. Ellis visited Kew Gardens.

4th April 1952

Two films “God of Creators” and “Voice of the Deep” were shown to the school during the morning session.  Mrs. Hooper who leaves the staff today was presented by colleagues with a handbag and purse.   After suitable assemblies the school closed until 23rd April.

23rd April 1952

The School reopened with a full staff.   Mr. Holey commenced vice Mrs. Hooper and 731 children.

12th May 1952

Miss Simmons, Kingston Road School, commenced three weeks teaching practice prior to going to the University of London Education Dept.   Mr. Higgins, assistant County Inspector, visited and spent one period each with Messrs. Allison, Grimwood, Holey and Elvidge.

22/23 May 1952

Mrs. McGrath absent assisting with the oral exams (Common Entrance) at Woking Girls’ Grammar School.

26th May 1952

Miss Ward absent pm – nervous strain.

27th May 1952

The orchestra of the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst, under its conductor Lt. Thistle gave a concert in the school Hall to the senior part of the school.

28th May 1952

The school was closed during the afternoon session for the Woking and District Schools Sports.   The boys’ team won the Boys Championship cup, the girls being placed second in their competition.  Six boys and four girls from the school were included in the District team to compete in the County Soports later in the term.

Woking and District School Sports 1952

The school closed during the afternoon session for the Woking and District Athletic Sports at the Kingfield Sports ground.

 

The event was preceded by a march past by each school to the accompaniment of the Royal Air Force March.

 

The boys’ team won the Boys Championship cup, the girls being placed second in their competition.  Six boys and four girls from the school were included in the District team to compete in the County Sports later in the term.

 

The trophies were presented by Mr. H. Edmunds, Association president.

 

The school scored 10 firsts, 2 seconds and 5 thirds.

Mr. Guppy temporally ceased duty after the morning session on the advice of his chest specialist, B. Buell, and supported by the Divisional Medical Officer.

Messrs. Powell and Colns, Shoreditch Training College, commenced three weeks school practice.  Mr. Price, Cambridge University commenced two weeks practice.   Mrs. M. McGrath in charge of the school during the Headmaster’s attendance at County Hall on a 13+ Appeals Panel.

18th June 1952

Headmaster resumed.  Mr. Elvidge absent taking Woking Geography Diploma Examination.

19th June 1952

Miss J. Ward absent – med. Certification “nervous exhaustion” inspected.

20th June 1952

Mr. R.A. Garnham commenced duty on supply vice Miss. Ward.

At a governor’s meeting today Mr. Allison was appointed permanent in place of Mrs. Perry and Mrs Bryon vice Mr. Hopley both from the beginning of next term.

Mr. L.V. Lark resumed duty after a years leave of absence.

10th July 1952

Messrs. Evans and Lark with 26 boys visited Kennington Oval for the annual East v. West Surrey Cricket match.

Open afternoon have been held for parents.

Parents of children to be admitted next term today visited the school during the afternoon.

After the usual junior and senior assemblies the school closed at the end of the afternoon session until 2nd September.  Mrs. Perry on retiring from the staff today was provided with a handbag by her colleagues.

2nd September 1952

The school reopened today with a full staff and 209 children.   Mrs. M. Bryson commenced duty taking the backward form, Remove.   Mr. Allison becomes form master of 4C.

11th September 1952

Miss Pope, County P.E. Organiser visited and saw Miss Stewart.

15th September 1952

The chairman of the governors, Mr. A.W. Stollery, visited the school.

22nd September 1952

Two first year students from Shoreditch T.C. commenced two weeks observation school practice.   During the games period Robert Manderville aged 12 years broke his leg, an ambulance was summoned, and he was taken to Pyrford Hospital accompanied by his mother.

The school reopened after one weeks holiday for mid-term.

Mr. Penn is absent today attending a County Gardening Course.

Jean Close, Art, Inspector of schools, Teaching, spent the afternoon in the school at the invitation of the Surrey Education Committee.

15th December 1952

Mrs. July Gerard commenced on supply.

16th and 17th December 1952

A national play and carols were presented to audiences in the School Hall.

19th December 1952

The school closed today until Wed. 7th January 1953.  Mrs. Ellis ceased her duties as assistant mistress for science today.   She was presented with Record Tokens by her colleagues.
