School reopened. 2 students from Shoreditch Training colleges began final teaching practice.

Mrs. Souter commenced duties.

Miss Mitson’s services no longer required.

23rd January 1961

Youth Employment Officer interview – boys re: engineering course leaving school July 1961.

24th January 1961

School closed for Common Entrance Exam – used as a centre.

26th January 1961

Mr. Goodger still absent.

27th January 1961

I suspended Robert Child for insubordination and immediately notified the Rev. A.J. Costin and Mr. Elworthy.

30th January 1961

Miss Voller visited the school.

31st January 1961

New classrooms brought into use.

1st February 1961

Medical Inspection – 6th and 4th year boys.  B. Grittiths, County Boxing Champion.

7th February 1961

Mrs. Monshin left the staff.

6th March 1961

Visit of 13+ transfer panel to interview 1 candidate.  I left the school at 2.15pm to attend a Governors’ Meeting at Sheerwater C.S.S. at 2.30 P.M.

7th March 1961

I was absent (also 8th March 1961) acting on 13+ panel at Reigate Priory C.S.S.  During absence Mr. Richardson called, expressed to the Deputy Head dissatisfaction with the school playing field and said he had given the firm until the end of the week to make improvements.

9th March 1961

This afternoon I expelled Robert Child from this school.  I notified the D.E.O. but as I was unsuccessful in contacting the chairman of the school Governors I sent him a copy of the letter sent to the D.E.O. (this afternoon).

13th and 14th March 1961

I was absent – 13+ examining at Beare Green County Secondary School.

15th March 1961

A.M. Again absent – Beare Green Secondary School.

P.M. District Netball rally and presentation of trophies at this school.   DEO gave permission to close the school for the afternoon.

28th March 1961

Fire Drill at 2.50 P.M.

Staff V. Children Netball match after school.

29th March 1961

School closed for the Easter holidays until 24th April 1961.

24th April1961

School reopened    Mrs Randall and Mr. Swann joined the staff.

During the holiday:

(a)   The school corridors were repainted.

(b)   A party of boys visited North Wales for an introduction to climbing, camping and map reading.  3 boys used this visit to further their training in connection with the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award – Silver Medal.

(c)   Ramble in Guildford park area.

(d)   Work on the library conversion

(e)   New cycle shed installed.
